IDDAS appoints Lord Freeman to advisory panel

12 November 2002

The specialist career counselling firm IDDAS has appointed Lord Freeman, the former cabinet minister, to its advisory panel.

IDDAS provides career transition advice and counselling to senior executives, in particular those making the transition from corporate life to an independent second career.

Lord Freeman joins Elizabeth Filkin - the former Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, who joined IDDAS in April - on the panel.  The other members are Jane Kingsley (former Head of Russell Reynolds UK) and Stuart Slatter (Visiting Fellow at London Business School).

Lord Freeman is a former partner and managing director of Lehman Brothers. He represented Kettering between 1983-97, and held various ministerial positions, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence between 1986-88.

He served as Minister of State for Public Transport from 1990-94 and as Minister of State for Defence Procurement from 1994-95.  In 1995, he entered the Cabinet as Minister for Public Service and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Lord Freeman was made a life peer in 1997 and returned to the commercial world as a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, for whom he continues to act as a consultant.

“I am delighted to join the IDDAS Advisory Board,” said Lord Freeman.  “I feel strongly that our economy needs the experience and skills of senior executives moving on from conventional employment.  IDDAS can provide the encouragement and sense of direction and purpose that helps people continue to stay productive.”

IDDAS director David Stewart said:  “We are seeing increasing demand for guidance and support from senior executives in transition.  Our advisory panel plays a key role in helping with strategic direction and maintenance of standards, and we very much look forward to Lord Freeman’s contribution.”
