Sir Nicholas Montagu

Nick was a career civil servant for thirty years. He held senior posts in a number of Departments: setting up executive agencies in Social Security, overseeing rail privatisation in Transport and heading the Economic and Domestic Secretariat in the Cabinet Office for the first months of the Blair Government. From 1997 to 2004 Nick was Chairman of the Inland Revenue, leading it through the greatest changes in its 200 year history; he was also Permanent Secretary Champion for Diversity. Nick has undertaken a wide range of consulting activities. Since retirement in 2004 Nick has built up a varied portfolio of business and consulting activities. He is a director of two pension companies, Chair of Norwich Union's With-Profits Committee and a member of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Advisory Panel. In addition he undertakes numerous freelance speaking engagements and has advised a number of developing countries on key issues in government administration.
